The drive home from collection is often your Cavoodle puppy's very first car trip - a little preparation makes it far calmer for everyone.
What to Bring
A secure carrier or crate, a towel in case of car sickness or accidents, and a familiar-smelling blanket (we send one home in every puppy pack) all help your puppy feel more secure.
Securing Your Puppy Safely
Always secure your puppy in a crate, carrier or with a dog seatbelt attachment rather than allowing them to roam free in the car - this protects your puppy and other passengers.
Timing the Trip
Where possible, plan the trip for a quieter time of day, and avoid feeding a large meal immediately beforehand to reduce the chance of car sickness.
Managing Anxiety or Whining
Some whining or unsettled behaviour on the first trip is completely normal - keep your voice calm and reassuring rather than overly excited, which can heighten anxiety rather than soothe it.
Breaks on Longer Trips
For families travelling a significant distance, plan brief, secure stops for water and toileting (avoiding public areas with unknown dogs until vaccination is complete), and never leave your puppy unattended in the car.
Arriving Home
Take your puppy straight to their designated toileting spot before heading inside, then allow them to explore their new home calmly and at their own pace.
