The days before collection are the perfect time to puppy-proof your home and gather essential supplies. Here's our full checklist.
Puppy-Proofing Your Home
- Secure or remove electrical cords within reach
- Store cleaning products, medications and toxic plants out of reach
- Block access to stairs if needed with a puppy gate
- Check your garden fence for gaps a small puppy could squeeze through
- Remove or elevate small objects a curious puppy could chew or swallow
Essential Supplies to Have Ready
- A crate sized appropriately for an adult Cavoodle (with a divider for puppy-sized use)
- Soft bedding and a couple of washable blankets
- Food and water bowls (stainless steel or ceramic is easiest to keep clean)
- A small supply of the puppy's current food (we send this home with every Chloe's Cavoodles puppy)
- A well-fitted harness and lightweight lead
- Puppy pads for overnight or early toilet training
- A selection of safe chew toys
Setting Up a Puppy Zone
Choose a contained area - a laundry, kitchen or similar - as your puppy's initial home base, with their crate, bed, water and easy access to an outdoor toileting area. This makes toilet training and supervision far more manageable in the first few weeks.
Booking a Vet
Line up a local vet before collection day, particularly if you'd like an independent health check within the first 72 hours, as recommended under our health guarantee.
