Teething is a normal, temporary phase every Cavoodle puppy goes through - understanding the timeline helps you manage it with less frustration.
The Teething Timeline
Puppy (deciduous) teeth typically finish coming through by around 8 weeks. Adult teeth then begin pushing through from roughly 12 weeks, with the full adult set usually complete by 6-7 months.
Signs of Teething
Increased chewing, mild drooling, slightly swollen or reddened gums, and occasional mild loss of appetite around 12-20 weeks are all common signs your puppy is teething.
Managing Sore Gums
Offer appropriate teething toys - chilled (not frozen) rubber chew toys can be particularly soothing. Avoid very hard chews like antlers or bones during this period, as adult teeth coming through can be more prone to damage.
Protecting Your Home
Redirect chewing onto appropriate toys rather than punishing - it's a biological need, not misbehaviour. Puppy-proof by removing accessible cords, shoes and furniture edges from reach where possible during this phase.
Finding Puppy Teeth
It's completely normal to find small puppy teeth around the house, or for a puppy to swallow a loose tooth during chewing (this is harmless). If you notice retained puppy teeth alongside adult teeth past 7-8 months, mention it to your vet.
