A Cavoodle's soft, wavy-to-curly coat is one of their most loved features - but it does require consistent care to stay healthy and mat-free.
At-Home Brushing Routine
Brush your Cavoodle 2-4 times per week using a slicker brush followed by a metal comb, paying particular attention to friction areas prone to matting: behind the ears, under the front legs (armpits), and around the collar line. Daily brushing is even better for puppies still growing their adult coat, roughly between 4-9 months, when coat texture changes and mats form more easily.
Bathing
Bathe every 3-4 weeks using a gentle dog shampoo, or sooner if your Cavoodle gets particularly muddy. Over-bathing can dry out the skin, so stick to a dog-specific shampoo and avoid human products.
Professional Grooming Schedule
Book a professional groom every 6-8 weeks for a full coat trim, sanitary clip, nail trim and ear cleaning. Regular professional grooming also gives you an early heads-up on any skin issues, ear infections or lumps a groomer might notice during handling.
Ear Care
Cavoodles' floppy ears reduce airflow, making them more prone to ear infections. Check ears weekly for redness, odour or excess wax, and clean gently with a vet-approved ear cleaner as needed - never insert cotton buds into the ear canal.
Nail Trimming
Trim nails every 3-4 weeks, or as needed if you hear them clicking on hard floors. Regular trims from puppyhood make this far easier long-term, as your dog becomes accustomed to having their paws handled.

Popular Cavoodle grooming styles range from a short "puppy cut" (easiest to maintain) to a longer "teddy bear" trim. Discuss options with your groomer based on your lifestyle and how much daily brushing you're realistically able to commit to.
