Getting exercise right at each life stage supports healthy joint development and a well-balanced temperament.
Puppies (8-16 weeks)
Keep exercise short and gentle - brief supervised play sessions and short walks once your vet confirms it's safe, following your vaccination schedule. Over-exercising a young puppy can put unnecessary strain on developing joints.
Adolescents (4-12 months)
Gradually build up to 20-40 minutes of walking per day, plus play and training sessions. This is also the key period for continued socialisation - varied, positive experiences matter as much as physical exercise.
Adults (1-7 years)
Most adult Cavoodles do well with 30-60 minutes of exercise daily, split across a walk and some active play or training. Mental enrichment - puzzle feeders, scent games, short training refreshers - is just as valuable as physical activity for this intelligent breed.
Seniors (8+ years)
Older Cavoodles generally need shorter, gentler walks, with attention to joint health and weight management. Watch for signs of stiffness or reduced enthusiasm for exercise, and discuss any changes with your vet.
Signs of Under- or Over-Exercise
An under-exercised Cavoodle may become restless, vocal or destructive, while over-exercise (particularly in puppies) can cause excessive fatigue or joint strain. A tired-but-content dog after activity is the goal.
